Great News

Great news for me this week. I was accepted into two shows for June. The Western States Horse Expo, where I have had work and won the blue ribbon in B&W Photography for the past two years, and The New Jersey Equine Artist's Association juried show. That one will be at the Somerset Art Association opening the beginning of June through the end of the month.

The thing that gets me, is that I had no idea that the NJEAA show was such a big deal. I just enter whatever shows come along that sound interesting. If they take photography, which the don't always, then I enter them. Many of the artists in the EAG (Equine Art Guild) see this show as something to strive for. Gee, if I had known, I might have been too intimidated to enter. They accepted two of my pieces, "From Above, #1" and "L". Both of these are also rather abstract, non-traditional pieces. I am so thrilled that they were accepted. I'll have to let everyone know how the opening goes. I hear that it is in a very "Chi Chi" neighborhood.

The last bit of news, I don't know if I have mentioned. The Chisholm Gallery of Pine Plains, New York will now be carrying a selection of my work. I hope that the relationship with the gallery is a positive one for us all!

Here is the rest in Color!

Just a few more color images of the pals! Can you tell I had fun!?!

Playing in Color!

As an exercise, I have been shooting in color. I thought it might be good to hone my skills of observation. And boy was I right. The background is much more important. And things like ugly halters and bright orange traffic cones, sure do jump out at you. I think it is an exercise that I will use from time to time from now on. I posted my images on the reference library of the Equine Art Guild for my fellow members to use as reference shots for their paintings. Some have already shown me the results and it is such a thrill for me. Here are a couple for you all to enjoy. These are of my horse Doc, the buckskin, and some paddock pals of his.

Here are some new ones....

Here are some new images I was working on before I went away...the logging shot is from last spring. Sometimes it takes me a while before I can get to printing a negative.

Pins and needles!

I have been sitting on pins and needles lately, waiting to here from the various shows I have entered. Have been rejected from all of the ones so far this year. Not a great record, but fairly typical for an emerging artist. Still painful though. But I keep plugging away at it. Should be hearing from 4 soon with another 2 to enter coming up. I'll let you all know as soon as I do.

In the mean time, I have just gotten back from a vacation cruise in Hawaii. Wow. The place is not what I had expected. Where you anticipate this lush tropical place. What is in reality, quite desolate on a large part of the newer more volcanically active Islands. Here is a typical shot of some of that....

And this shot is of the amazing Waimea Canyon on Kauai...
